In an effort to control the Grand Canyon National Park's bison population, 100 of the hump-backed, shaggy herd animals were relocated last week. According to the National Park, its wildlife managers moved the 100 bison from the park's North Rim to South Dakota's Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe on Sept.

The controversial herd has been blamed for damaging vegetation, archaeological sites and animal habitat. Land managers say they want to keep the population between 200 and 300 animals.

Wildlife managers were able to successfully relocate 100 Grand Canyon bison from the North Rim to South Dakota to combat overpopulation.
