HARLAN, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky lawmaker was critically injured when the lawn mower he was riding plunged into an empty swimming pool at his home, authorities said Monday.

Under the Kentucky Constitution, taxpayer money can fund only “common schools,” which state courts have interpreted as public. If passed, the legislature would be allowed to steer money to other entities, including private or charter schools.

Candidates running for Kentucky State House seats that represent the Louisville area in the 2024 General Election.
