Des Moines resident Shelby Willis won $1,000 a day for life in the Iowa Lottery's Lucky for Life lottery game on Friday.

A Des Moines man won the top prize in the Iowa Lottery’s Lucky For Life game, and he’s planning on using the money to move closer to his family. Shelby Willis, 64, claimed his prize at the Iowa Lottery headquarters on Tuesday.

An Iowa man said his life will change after he won a huge lottery prize. Shelby Willis, 64, was born in Iowa but lived most of his life on the East Coast, according to a news release from the Iowa Lottery. He moved back to Iowa 12 years ago to care for his ill father.

Shelby Willis, 64, of Des Moines, claimed the "Lucky for Life" contest prize, which is $1,000 a day for life. Willis opted to take the lump sum payment of $5.75 million, according to the Iowa Lottery.
